Pain Management has always been given much importance in Panchakarma and Ayurveda. Though there are advances like anesthesia, pain killers and steroids for pain treatment, managing the same has always been challenging, especially with natural remedies and without ingesting chemicals.
Pain is physical suffering and can be caused due to stress, illness, and injury. Pain can occur in any part of the body and can put the individual in discomfort. Chronic pain can affect the day to day activities as well. Snehan And Swedan
During this procedure, herbal or medicated oil is applied by appropriate therapeutic procedures like Abhyanga, Choorna Pinda Sweda, Shashtika Pinda Sweda, Pizhichil, Kativasti etc. The oil is selected based on the cause of the pain, and it is followed by a therapy called sudation, which includes application of herbal steam through suitable methods like Bashpa sweda or Valuka sweda.
In cases of abdominal pain, Basti treatment is suggested as it aids digestion and reduces the accumulation of gases.
Agnikarma | Pain Management
Agnikarma is one among the Para surgical procedures which have been mentioned in Ayurveda. The term Agnikarma has evolved from two words viz. Agni (Fire)+ Karma (Procedure), Its a procedure where the condition is treated using direct heat. The therapy works wonders when a person is suffering from joint pains, spasmodic pain, frozen shoulder or spondylosis. Agnikarma also applicable in conditions like piles, varicose veins , corns & calluses.
Rakta Mokshana (Blood Letting) | Pain Management
This is an advanced ayurvedic treatment and is performed in various ways for Purification and Cleansing of human blood, under the supervision of an Ayurvedic Doctor. This therapy is often suggested for quick healing since it improves blood circulation of that area and can be done using Sastras (surgical instruments) and also by Jaluka (medicinal leeches) depending on the health condition. Rakthamokshana is very effective in certain skin conditions , varicose veins & ano-rectal conditions.
Lepa | Pain Management
Lepa is the external application of herbal paste, which is spread on the area affected. This therapy is helpful to treat injuries, sprains, and swelling. Ayurvedic herbs are heated, wrapped in a cloth, and are placed on the area of pain. This therapy provides immediate relief.
